My Pitch

Hi everyone,I want to start with a simple question:What happens to an animal when a shelter runs out of space?Hello class, my name is Frances Landron, and for my multimedia practicum project, I’m creating a five-minute short documentary about a local South Florida animal shelter called Abandoned Pet Rescue. What does “Adopt Don’t Shop” mean?(improvised portion)This project is personal to me, but in a different way. While I didn’t grow up working directly with this shelter, it’s something my sister holds very close to her heart. She volunteers there regularly and has shown me the impact this rescue has on animals and the community. Through her experiences, I’ve been able to see just how much dedication and compassion goes into this work.In South Florida, thousands of animals enter shelters every year. Many are older, injured, or abandoned. And when shelters run out of space, difficult decisions have to be made.Abandoned Pet Rescue is a no-kill shelter, which means that even when they reach capacity, they remain committed to not euthanizing animals to make room. In a state like Florida, where shelters are often overwhelmed, that commitment is powerful—and it’s not easy. It requires funding, volunteers, and strong community support to keep that promise alive.

My documentary will take viewers inside the shelter—not just the happy adoption moments, but the everyday work that makes those moments possible. I’ll be interviewing staff members and volunteers, including people like my sister who dedicate their time to caring for these animals. Alongside these interviews, viewers will see the animals up close: the nervous ones, the older ones, the overlooked ones—the ones still waiting. This film is designed specifically for the South Florida community. It will be shared on the shelter’s social media platforms, where it can directly reach potential adopters, donors, and volunteers. But beyond raising awareness, this project has a clear purpose: to increase local support. More visibility leads to more adoptions. More adoptions create more space. And more space means more lives saved.I’m seeking support to help bring this story to life in a professional and impactful way—through strong visuals, thoughtful editing, and intentional storytelling that truly represents the heart of this rescue. At the end of the day, this isn’t just about animals. It’s about community responsibility. It’s about showing that South Florida can choose compassion. And with the right support, this documentary can turn awareness into action.

Thank you.
